St John's-in-the-Woods is one of the six churches in the Parish of the Transfiguration which is in the Kent Deanery.
In 1836 Rev. Thomas Brock Fuller from St Paul's Church, Chatham (now Trinity Church) was the first Anglican clergyman who conducted services in the area. He later became Bishop of Niagara. From the start St John’s-in-the-Woods has been a rural church, in 1856, 35 families attended services and today there are about 30 families.
