Bishop's New Years Levee

(left) Bishop Bob Bennett (right) Bishop Bruce HoweIn celebration of the beginning of 2007 and the Diocese of Huron's sesquicentennial year there will be levee at St Paul's Cathedral, London, Monday, January 1 from 11am to 12:15pm with Bishop Bruce Howe and Bishop Bob Bennett.

That afternoon Bishop Howe will go on to St John's Church Cambridge for a levee from 3 - 4:30pm. The Rt. Revd Bruce Howe was enthroned as the 11th Bishop of Huron on the 30th of November 2000.

Rt. Rev. Bob Bennett, Suffragan Bishop of Norfolk will be at St John's, Windsor from 3 - 4:30pm. The first St John's Church was built in 1807, 50 years before the establishment of the Diocese.

St John's-in-the-Woods, Aughrim

St John's-in-the-Woods, Aughrim, OntarioSt John's-in-the-Woods is one of the six churches in the Parish of the Transfiguration which is in the Kent Deanery.

In 1836 Rev. Thomas Brock Fuller from St Paul's Church, Chatham (now Trinity Church) was the first Anglican clergyman who conducted services in the area. He later became Bishop of Niagara. The first permanent priest was the Rev. John Gunne who from 1846 to 1856 led services in different homes around Aughrim. The first church building, a frame structure, was constucted in 1856. It was replaced in 1898 with the current new brick building which seats about 100. From the start St John’s-in-the-Woods has been a rural church, in 1856, 35 families attended services and today there are about 30 families.

St Stephen's, Brantford, Ontario

Inside St Stephen'sSt Stephen's Church merged with Grace Anglican, Brantford in December 2003. The church building was sold and the proceeds used to create the St Stephen's Trust to fund community outreach programs. A chaplain to the Laurier University campus in downtown Brantford was appointed as part of this outreach.

To keep the memory of St. Stephen’s alive Grace’s former rectory was renamed St. Stephen’s House and is being remodelled for student housing.

St Edmund's, Tobermory

St Edmund's, Tobermory, OntarioSt. Edmund's Church was built in 1959 with the belfry added in 1983. It has a core congregation of 20 with up to 80 attending during the summer tourist season.

There is a Parish Hall and an attached cottage, both are used frequently.

Inside the church are altar linens and hangings made by the Chancel Guild and at the back of the altar is a mosaic that depicts Jesus on the shore of Lake Galilee. It was given in memory Rev. T. J. Hamilton who was the first school master in Tobermory.

Recent Appointments

Rev. Rob Lemon, rector of Lakeshore Parish (St John-in-the-Wilderness, Brights Grove and Christ Church, Camlachie) has been appointed Regional Dean of Lambton

Rev. Jim Innes was appointed part time Incumbent of St. John’s, St. Thomas effective December 1, 2006.

Rev. Tom Anderson was appointed rector of Trinity, Watford and St. Paul’s, Kerwood effective December 1, 2006.

Rev. Nancy Adams will become rector of Christ Church, Petrolia and St. John’s, Wyoming effective January 14, 2007. Nancy is currently at currently at St. Paul’s Chatsworth and St. John’s, Desboro.
