St Marys, Walkerville, Windsor, Ontario
September 1, the Ven. Jane Humphreys, currently the rector of St. Luke’s Broughdale, London and Archdeacon of Middlesex, will become the rector of St. Mary’s, Walkerville, Windsor.
When built, St Marys Memorial Church housed a Karn pipe organ which in 1967 was rebuilt. It was restored and modernized in 2 stages in 1995 and 1996.
Their three sons erected St Marys in 1903-1904 as a memorial to Hiram and Mary Walker. Hiram Walker had built the first St. Mary's Church in 1870, which for the first 2 years was Methodist.
Walker, born in Massachusetts in 1816, founded Walkerville where he built his distillery that produced Canadian Club Whiskey. Walker only lived in Canada from 1859 to 1864 and died in Detroit in 1899.
